SUV vs Sedan: What Indian Buyers Are Actually Choosing
The compact SUV segment continues to outsell sedans across nearly every price band in India, and it is not just about styling. Higher ground clearance, a commanding driving position, and stronger resale value all play a part in the decision.
Where SUVs win
Broken roads, speed bumps, and unpredictable monsoon flooding make extra ground clearance a genuinely practical feature outside major cities, not just a styling preference. SUVs also tend to hold their resale value better after three to five years.
Where sedans still make sense
At the premium end, sedans still offer a lower center of gravity, quieter cabins at highway speed, and better outright ride comfort. Buyers who drive mostly on well-maintained highways and prioritise comfort over ground clearance often prefer them.
Bottom line
There is no universally correct answer here. Match the body style to your actual roads and driving pattern, not to what is trending in the segment.
